Benjamin Black biography and information

Benjamin Black is the pen name of the acclaimed Irish author, John Banville, which he uses to write crime fiction. He sees his work as Black as a craft, as opposed to the writing under his own name which he sees as an art. He has stated that when he?s writing he can feel Black slowly take over and start writing. Or Banville will lean over Black's shoulder, and begin to write.

As Benjamin Black, Banville has written seven successful novels about consultant pathologist, Dr. Quirke (no first name is ever given). The first of the Quirke mysteries, Christine Falls, has been filmed by the BBC with Gabriel Byrne in the lead role.
