Ben Macintyre was born in Oxford and educated in Abingdon School, after which he studied history at St John's College, Cambridge. He is a columnist and Associate Editor for the Times and has previously worked as the newspaper’s correspondent in New York, Paris and Washington.
Macintyre is best-known for his internationally acclaimed books about espionage, including Agent Zigzag (2007), which was shortlisted for the Costa Biography Award and the Galaxy British Book Award for Biography of the Year 2008; Operation Mincemeat (2010); A Spy Amongst Friends (2014), made into an eponymous six-part series in 2022; The Spy and the Traitor (2018); Agent Sonya (2020) and Colditz (2022). Ben Macintyre’s books have been translated into more than 20 languages and have sold over two million copies worldwide. Several of them have been adapted into documentaries, films, and television dramas, with Operation Mincemeat also having been turned into a phenomenally popular West End musical. His latest book, The Siege (2024), explores the Iranian Embassy siege in London in 1980 and was shortlisted for the Waterstones Book of the Year 2024.
