Born in 1946, bestselling American novelist Anita Shreve worked as a schoolteacher and journalist before turning to writing fiction in her forties. Ranging in tone and scope, her haunting, psychologically penetrating novels - which focus on women’s lives, often set against the background of the New England coast – garnered a wide following and critical acclaim. Her best-known works include The Pilot’s Wife, which was chosen for Oprah’s Book Club and the thriller The Weight of Water which was subsequently adapted for film. The Stars are Fire is her final novel.
