Two damaged children: Teddy Brex, whom no-one loved, and so found it easier to relate to objects or things which never let him down; and Francine Hill, who was discovered sitting by the body of her mother, her skirt red with blood. She couldn't tell the police or her father anything to help track down the killer... Children grow up in different ways. Teddy became a handsome young man, Francine was beautiful - a sight for sore eyes. But it was death that brought them together.
Ruth Rendell, who also writes under the name of Barbara Vine, has won many awards, including the Crime Writers' Association Gold Dagger and two Edgars from the Mystery Writers of America. She has also won the Crime Writers' Association Cartier Diamond Dagger. In 1996 she was awarded the CBE and in 1997 became a Life Peer.
David Threlfall's films include Patriot Games, Master and Commander and Hot Fuzz, while in the theatre he has appeared in Richard II, Tartuffe, Skellig and The Entertainer. Television credits include the BAFTA-winning drama Housewife, 49 and an Emmy-nominated performance in The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby, but he is probably best known for his role as Frank Gallagher in Shameless, which won him an RTS Best Actor Award.
