Part of the "Documents and Debates" series aimed primarily at sixth formers, this book aims to provides the student with the skills necessary to study documentary sources. Each volume concentrates on a particular topic in a short period of time - this work discusses the political activities and careers of the statesmen Peel, Gladstone and Disraeli. The book consists of eight sections, each dealing with a major theme in depth, illustrated by extracts drawn from primary sources. The series intends partly to provide experience for those pupils who are required to answer questions on documentary material at A-level, and partly to provide pupils of all abilities with a digestible collection of source material which aims to extend the normal textbook approach. Each section will carry its own brief introduction, which aims to set the documents into context. A wide variety of source material has been used including excerpts from letters, newspapers, speeches, memoirs, diaries, official papers, Acts of Parliament, Minute Books, accounts, local documents and family papers. The aim of the book is to test historic knowledge and understanding, as well as basic comprehension.
