The Dog and the Bone is one of three traditional tales written by Cynthia Rider for the Key Skills (High Frequency Words) strand of Cambridge Reading. This series of three also includes The Enormous Turnip and The Greedy Mouse. The stories have been delightfully retold and are complemented by wonderful illustrations which give the animals and people real character. The language is simple with repetition of high frequency words - ideal for young readers in the Foundation stage (aged 4). The High Frequency Words strand comprises 20 storybooks and 20 non-fiction books providing a fresh approach to learning high frequency words by using real texts. The books provide a systematic introduction and reinforcement of all the NLS words.
