In an effort to bring Patrick Grainville into the world of critical study, Edwards (French studies, U. of Newcastle upon Tyne) provides a basically cultural exploration of his works in relation to those of Michel Tournier. In the process she analyzes myth and the ways that it resonates through both of these authors' novels. The book concludes with some speculation that the reason there has been a resurgence of mythological themes in literature, is because of our need to return to security at the turn of the millennium.
