This project is intended for most courses or laboratories that cover earth-science topics, including physical geology, historical geology, earth science, earth-systems science, oceanography, environmental science, or meteorology. The majority of students are non-science majors taking the course to fulfill general education requirements. Students are interested in the physical world around them, but want to understand the relevance of what they're learning. Majors, however, are much more motivated, and this minority of students (approximately 10 per cent) enrolls to get a solid introduction to the processes of the earth's shaping and the factors involved. The earth systems today CD/web site provides a fully interactive learning environment using the fundamental tool of earth science - direct observation - to help students explore the world around them. By observing and analyzing real-life data from around the world in a visually rich and fun environment, students should be able to understand the complexity of the world around them. Plus, interactive activities motivate students to explore dynamic earth processes.
