UK Kirkus review

Although research into homocysteine and its effects have been going on since the 1970s, it is far less well known - and much less frequently tested - than blood pressure or cholesterol. However, according to the authors, homocysteine is the single greatest predictor of health and disease. Lowering homocysteine levels could prevent the onset of many common diseases ranging from heart disease to dementia, and it will form part of routine health testing within the next ten years. If it is so important, then why has the average person never heard of it? It is an amino acid found in the blood and, since it can be lowered in a matter of months simply by correct nutrition and the use of vitamin supplements, it has not attracted the attention of the big drug companies. This fascinating book is part health manual and part scientific article. It treads a fine line between the two and can be a little heavy going in places, but it is well worth the read and gives the ordinary reader sensible advice regarding nutrition, supplements, exercise and lifestyle. A comprehensive reference guide allows the reader the opportunity to study the topic in depth and there is a website where the reader can contact Patrick Holford. (Kirkus UK)
