Synopsis

This volume draws together a range of ethical and pedagogical issues for trainee and newly qualified teachers of art and design, in both primary and secondary schools. Arguing for a critical approach to art and design curriculum, the collection encourages students and teachers to consider and reflect on issues in order that they can make reasoned and informed judgements about their teaching or art and design. Among the key issues addressed are: the transition from art and design in the primary school to art and design in the secondary school; measuring artistic performance; visual literacy; the role of art and design in citizenship education; research in art education; and multicultural art history.
