This is a guide to the best children's books published in the year 1989. This year's catalogue contains over 300 entries and an introduction to the latest trends in children's publishing. All the books included in this catalogue are displayed in a travelling exhibition organized by the Children's Book Foundation. This is Julia Eccleshare's fifth year as a selector of "Children's Books of the Year". She has been Children's Books Editor for the "Times Literary Supplement" (1974-78) and was Fiction Editor for Puffin Books (1978-79) and for Hamish Hamilton (1979-1984). She now works as a freelance reviewer.
