Synopsis
The Coffin Dancer, America's most wanted hit man, is back. He's been hired by an airline owner who wants three witnesses taken care of before his trial, and has got the first, a pilot, by blowing up his entire plane. Enter quadriplegic ex-cop Lincoln Rhyme, who can find forensic evidence to hang a man in the smallest debris, and his assistant Amelia Sachs. Their job is to keep the remaining two witnesses safe, and to find the Coffin Dancer before he finds them. Because he will find them, and anyone else who tries to get in his way.

UK Kirkus review
Deaver's first novel featuring his brilliant quadriplegic criminologist Lincoln Rhyme The Bone Collector, created an audience for his satisfyingly detailed and densely plotted novels. This second outing for Rhyme and his assistant NYPD patrolwoman Amelia Sachs is also a crowd pleaser. While the relentless tracking of a brilliant and ruthless criminal has become the most over-familiar of plots, Deaver is still able to ring the changes with a genuine freshness and imagination. The eponymous villain is one in the classic mould, a deviser of plots as labyrinthine as the most jaded crime reader might wish. The introduction of a strong-willed woman pilot, Percey Clay, as the target of The Coffin Dancer is a canny touch, with Rhyme obliged to deal with her uncooperative response to her danger as much as the strategic duelling with his nemesis. The prose is pared down and serviceable rather than literary, but that suits the pacey narrative on offer here. (Kirkus UK)
