Synopsis

Here, five short plays have been created from adaptations of five classic novels: "The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickelby" by Charles Dickens, "The Birthmark" by Nathaniel Hawthorne, "The Prince and the Pauper" by Mark Twain, "Frankenstein" by Mary Shelley and "The Lost World" by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Though simplified, they should give students a strong flavour of the original stories. Each play is accompanied by background notes about the author, questions eliciting personal responses to the action, extension activities and suggestions for further reading.
