Synopsis

Finally available in paperback for the first time, Black Dog's collection of more than 500 blueprints, elevation drawings, and illustrations of small homes of various styles, from a New England farmhouse, to a sophisticated city townhouse, to a Santa Fe ranch. These small homes, all 1,250 sq. feet or less, represent a variety of living spaces suitable for every climate and environment, as well as numerous styles from the traditional (Modified Colonial Saltbox, Modern Tudor, Victorian Barn) to the avant-garde (Metaphoric Ark, Underground Earth Home, Zen Temple, Live-in Sculpture). Designs include site drawings, floor plans, elevations, section drawings, perspective drawings, and exploded views. It includes a brief introduction for each home that describes its setting, the design philosophy behind it, its intended use, materials used, recommended landscaping, and more. All of the plans included were selected as a result of several contest held among architects, designers, and architecture students in the search for the most elegant, affordable, funcational, environmentally friendly, and innovative design.
