UK Kirkus review
I grew up in a fairly rough area of Fife at a time when teenage boys joined gangs and roamed the streets. The literary diet consisted of books with titles like Skinhead and Suedehead and than A Clockwork Orange came along. I was only 13 or so, so I couldn't get into a cinema. Instead, I resorted to the novel - and what a novel it is, still fresh and inventive after all these years, and with its warning cry to society still absolutely valid. It made me realize that literature could tackle anything. (Kirkus UK)
