Synopsis

Inside this unique book lie some of the finest and most notable works in garden making and land art, along side many new discoveries by journalist and photographer Allan Pollok-Morris. Inspired by the news a poll had voted a garden as the most important work of art in Scotland, photographer Allan Pollok-Morris began a five year Scottish odyssey in search of new works in landscape design and land art and to learn more from the creators of the works. Even though all the works are found in one small nation, their strengths are universal and the "'Close' Collection" uses local examples from all corners of the country to celebrate the important role of gardens and land art in international arts and culture. There are over 250 colour photographs by Allan Pollok-Morris, foreword by Sir Roy Strong, essay by Tim Richardson and illustration by Gary Hincks. A high quality finish, 300-page, FSC certified hardback book, this second edition is supported by a large photographic exhibition and film "Close: A journey in Scotland" which will travel significant venues starting in the galleries of the Chicago Botanic Gardens, April to September 2010. The new edition has been expanded to revisit many subjects from the first book, update the collection with a comprehensive documentation of the highly acclaimed Jupiter Artland and visit many new works by land artists and landscape designers in Scotland.
