Waterstones customers able to pre-order new Kindle devices

7 September, 2012

Waterstones, the leading high street bookseller, announces that UK consumers can now order Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) Kindle devices from any of its 290 shops.

The presence of Kindle at Waterstones extends first-class digital reading to customers in-store. The company continues to invest heavily in a regeneration programme for its shops, underlining its commitment to preserving the traditional attributes of bookshops. Kindle at Waterstones will complement the existing retail model.

James Daunt, Managing Director of Waterstones said:

"There is nowhere better to buy a book than in a bookshop. The availability of Kindle at Waterstones means that our customers can now enjoy the pleasures of both physical books and e-books in-store. We are investing heavily in our shops with an emphasis on creating beautiful bookshops with a better range of books than ever. Many of our shops now have in-house coffee shops, more seating areas and of course the same dedicated, informed staff. I can't think of a better place to buy a book, whatever the format."

Waterstones customers will be able to purchase their e-book readers and e-books in the same place they have always found their books. They will benefit from the ability to speak to staff who understand the technology and have a passion for books. They will do this in refitted and improved shops, providing an enhanced customer experience with dedicated digital areas, free wi-fi and coffee shops.
