Marian Keyes

Biography

Date of birth: 10 September 1963

Marian Keyes has one of the most compelling stories of recent Irish novelists. Her first book, Watermelon, was published in 1995 after the author struggled with clinical depression. In the same year she went into rehabilitation at the Rutland Centre in Dublin, but her career as a bestselling author was just beginning.

Known for her colloquial, easy-going writing style and whimsical Irish humour, Keyes has since written over 12 novels and, in 2013 published her non-fiction book, Saved by Cake, a cookery book that reflects on her journey through depression and how baking helped her along the road.

Book and writing awards

Irish Book Awards; Irish Popular Fiction Book 2009 (This Charming Man).
