The Waterstone's Writers' Table returns in 2010 with a special selection to celebrate Penguins 75th anniversary. 50 Penguin authors - including Ali Smith, Zoë Heller, Paul Theroux, Steven Pinker, Mohsin Hamid, Naomi Klein, Jonathan Coe, James Lovelock, Alain de Botton, Helen Dunmore, Catherine O'Flynn, Roger McGough, Claire Tomalin and Will Self - each had complete freedom to choose any title from Penguin's unparalleled backlist to feature in a major promotion for Waterstone's, the UK's leading bookseller. The resulting list is intriguing and illuminating and reveals George Orwell as today's authors' most beloved Penguin writer.
"George Orwell was a master of social and political commentary," says Janine Cook, Fiction Buyer at Waterstone's. "It's no surprise he's the most chosen author from within the Penguin ranks as he is one of the most powerful voices in 20th century literature. His work is as relevant now as it was when it was written."
Two authors - Nick Hornby and Claire Tomalin - feature as both selected and selecting authors.
The table will feature in selected Waterstone's stores in January and February as well as here at Waterstones.com/writerstable.
