Biography

Date of birth: 24 September 1985

Eleanor Catton is a New Zealand author and Man Booker Prize winner. She was born in Canada, but raised in Christchurch, New Zealand from the age of six. She studied English at the University of Canterbury and earned a Master’s degree in Creative Writing from the Victoria University of Wellington. In 2008, she received a fellowship to the prestigious Iowa Writers’ Workshop.

In 2013, Catton won the Man Booker Prize for her second novel, The Luminaries. At the time, it was the longest book to win and she was the youngest writer ever to receive the award.

She lives in Auckland with her partner and teaches creative writing at the Manukau Institute of Technology.
