Biography

Date of birth: 1951

Kate Atkinson was born in York, earned a master’s degree in English literature from the University of Dundee in 1974 and now lives in Edinburgh. Her debut novel, Behind the Scenes at the Museum, was a huge success, winning the Whitbread Book of the Year in 1995. Her books featuring Jackson Brodie, former police inspector turned private investigator, have been adapted into the successful BBC series named after the first book in the series, Case Histories.

Her most recent novel, Life After Life, following the lives and deaths of Ursula Todd, was published to widespread critical acclaim.
