Biography

Date of birth: 23 October 1974

Aravinda Adiga was born in 1974 in Madras (now Chennai) in India. After graduating from Columbia University in New York, where one of his teachers was historian Simon Schama, he continued his education at Magdalen College, Oxford where he received a Master's Degree in English literature.

His work has been featured in such publications as The Financial Times, TIME magazine, Money, the New Yorker, and the Sunday Times. The White Tiger was his first novel, published in 2008, and looked at how India's rise as an economic power contrasted with the poverty of some of its citizens. It won the Man Booker Prize, making him the third author to win the prize with a debut novel.
