RJ Ellory

RJ Ellory

The author of A Quiet Belief In Angels and the winner of the Theakston's Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year 2010 for A Simple Act of Violence.

I was born into a single-parent family, and then orphaned at the age of seven. I was swiftly despatched to a boarding school and stayed there until I was sixteen. I then went on to Art College, but dropped out after a year. I studied music, formed a band, and played for four years until I was twenty. From November of 1987 until July of 1993 I wrote continuously, finally stopping out of sheer frustration.

I wrote nothing for eight years, and then between August 2001 and January 2002 I wrote three books, the second of which was called Candlemoth. This was purchased by Orion and published in 2003. I went on to publish Ghostheart (2004), A Quiet Vendetta (2005), City of Lies (2006), A Quiet Belief In Angels (2007), and most recently A Simple Act of Violence (2008). I am married (and have been since 1990), and I have one son who is now eleven years old. I am Birmingham born-and-bred, and this is where I still live.
