Patrick Rothfuss

Biography

Date of birth: July 1973

Born in Wisconsin, Patrick Rothfuss is the author of The Name of the Wind – one of the most highly acclaimed fantasy novels of the past decade, earning Patrick comparisons to Tolkien.

Patrick started writing the chronicles whilst studying, or not studying as the case may be, at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Patrick spent nine years living the student dream before being politely coerced into graduating; he did so with an English major and like a moth to the proverbial flame returned to teach part-time at the university two years later. It was whilst teaching that Patrick began the arduous task of getting published and he finally succeeded in 2007 after slyly disguising a chapter of his debut novel as a short story, winning the Writers of the Future competition in 2002 as a result.

George R. R. Martin (“He's bloody good, this Rothfuss guy”) and Ursula K. Le Guin (“Oh, joy!”) are among the millions of readers who have been gripped by the tale of Kvothe - the orphan who became a legend.

Patrick is the founder of the charity fundraiser, Worldbuilders, and is currently writing the third instalment of the Kingkiller Chronicles.
