Biography

Date of birth: 28 June 1971

Sophie Hannah is a British poet and novelist, whose prose style is often compared to the surrealism of Lewis Carroll and the light verse of Wendy Cope. She is an internationally bestselling writer of psychological crime fiction, published in 27 countries.

Aside from her crime books, The Culver Valley Crime series, Hannah has written a horror novel (The Orphan Choir), several collections of poems, and a book of short stories (The Fantastic Book of Everybody's Secrets). She's also written a new novel based on Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot series, entitled The Monogram Murders.

Two of Hannah's crime novels, The Point of Rescue and The Other Half Lives, were adapted for television.

Hannah lives in Cambridge with her husband and kids, where she is a Fellow Commoner at Lucy Cavendish College.

Book and writing awards

2013 Crime Novel of the Year Award at the Specsavers National Book Awards for The Carrier. Pessimism for Beginners was shortlisted for the 2007 T S Eliot Award. She won the 2004 Daphne Du Maurier Short Story competition with a story called The Octopus Nest, which is featured in her book of short stories, The Fantastic Book of Everybody's Secrets.
