Helen Oyeyemi

Author of The Icarus Girl, written while she was still at school...

Precocious novelist. She was born in Nigeria and moved to London when she was four. She wrote her first novel, The Icarus Girl, while still at school studying for her A levels.

Oyeyemi read Social and Political Sciences at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. At Cambridge, two of her plays, Juniper's Whitening and Victimese, have been performed by the student drama community to critical acclaim and subsequently published by Methuen. In 2007, she published her second novel, The Opposite House. Her latest book is White is for Witching which has been described as having "roots in Henry James and Edgar Allan Poe". She lives in London but currently resides in New York.

Helen was selected as one of the Waterstone's 25 Authors For the Future in 2007, and was one of the featured authors in the first Bloomsbury Discovery Season, organised by Waterstone's Gower Street.
