Waterstone's and Dyslexia Action
Waterstone's and Dyslexia Action: Working together to make reading enjoyable for all.
At Waterstone's, we believe the joy of reading to be one of life's fundamental pleasures which should be able to be enjoyed by all. Waterstone's has supported Dyslexia Action since 2003 as our chosen charity. As the UK's leading bookseller we support Dyslexia Action because we both believe reading to be a vital and life-enhancing skill. Our partnership is a strong match - two organisations committed to encouraging and enabling reading for education and for pleasure.
Our work benefits Dyslexia Action by raising much-needed funds and increasing awareness and understanding of dyslexia. The partnership also encourages recognition of Dyslexia Action and its valuable work.
Our support has included money donated by customers through collecting tins in our stores, proceeds from the sale of a Short Stories book and money raised from our Christmas card sales. A team of our staff ran the Flora London Marathon in aid of Dyslexia Action, and in celebration of the publication of her book 'Strangeland', we worked with acclaimed artist Tracey Emin who generously donated a series of bespoke artworks to our fundraising auction.
We have also produced a resource guide Waterstone's Guide to Books for Young Dyslexic Readers, which is availabile to download here.
