Fables: Legends in Exile - Vertigo S. Bk.1 by Lan Medina, et al.
"Fables" is a fantastic take on old fairytale favourites, revamping characters more famously known for Disney adaptations. Snow White is now in charge of the Fable community, a section of Manhatten where the more human looking characters can live in relative peace from the "Mundys".
This is a very enjoyable graphic novel: it looks great, the people are gripping, it's funny in places and really gets you involved in the story. My only real gripe is that it's quite small, and could definitely use more story!

All Together Dead: A True Blood Novel by Charlaine Harris
Whilst the Sookie Stackhouse series has been extremely entertaining from the start, at times it felt like there wasn't too much depth to some of them (which doesn't mean I don't love them all anyway). However, from this title, the writing really gets it together, and the drama/romance/vampirism/comedy really packs a punch. My favourite one so far.

Sinfest: v. 1 by Tatsuya Ishida, et al.
One of the most consistent webcomics out there, Sinfest is a well-drawn, intelligent (occasionally non-intelligent) four panel comic about religion, politics, society and all else. It's normally very funny, and also has some great cute moments. Ahhhh. Personal favourite character is Criminy, the quiet bookworm who is rarely seen outside his small fort made entirely of books. Waterstone's kind of man.

The Reginald Perrin Omnibus by David Nobbs
This was my holiday read for 2009, and I can't recommend it enough for any time of the year. If you're particularly drawn to comedy novels, this isn't short on jokes and witticisms. Highly recommended!

Dead Until Dark: A True Blood Novel by Charlaine Harris
I was a bit unsure of this series at first, but I'm really pleased I picked it up. Sookie is a wonderful protagonist, and doesn't come across as clingy or needy as some women do in Vampire fiction. Even though there's Murder Ahoy, it feels very lighthearted and easy to read. I'm already planning to buy the rest of the series

The Boys: v. 1 by Garth Ennis, et al.
There's something about Garth Ennis. I'm often repulsed by his stuff- mainly because it's hideously foul and deliberately shocking- but it's always a compelling read. Funny, too.
"The Boys" is about a gang, basically, that keep the superheroes of the world in line. I didn't realise this before, but Garth Ennis really hates superheroes. They're simple, mean, criminal, malicious and/or childish. Therefore, seeing them getting beaten up or exploded is actually quite funny. Recommended if you like Ennis, or disturbing fiction.

Creating Lifelike Figures in Polymer Clay by Katherine Dewey
I love creating with fimo, but I'll also be the first to admit that I'm not very good. I like making cartoony figures because then I can claim they were supposed to look like that, honest. Even so, this book was amazing as it helps you to make your own tools, support your work and get the proportions of bodies right. Absolutely recommended to anyone who makes figures, lifelike or otherwise.

Wedding Babylon by Imogen Edwards-Jones
This was the first 'Babylon' book I'd read, and to be honest I was a little disappointed. It seems that all the really interesting things that could be mentioned are being pushed aside for quite a weak story, and when something comes up that you might not have known about weddings it's dismissed with a short paragraph before continuing with the profane language.

Bad Science by Ben Goldacre
A fantastic book, that not only has an interesting topic but is very well written. Goldacre has a humourous flair that is at its best when he's clearly biting back his anger at badly portrayed results, for example, or when his best attempts at holding back sarcasm aimed at Gilliam McKeith fails. Brilliant stuff.

Handle with Care by Jodi Picoult
I'd never read any Jodi Picoult before, and in fact was often put off by the tacky taglines and sugary-depressive storylines, but as she is a very popular author I thought I'd give her a go. I was pleasantly surprised, as the book was actually very engaging, with an interesting storyline and strong writing style. Not all the characters were likeable, but were nevertheless captivating. However, I was right about the 'depressive' bit, but it definitely worked.

Racing the Moon by Terry Prone
I have no idea why I like this book, yet I'm perfectly willing to give it 5 stars. It's very easy-to-read, but the story isn't all happiness and light. I read it pretty much every holiday, maybe that's why it appeals?

Heaven Can Wait by Cally Taylor
Being a very lazy person, I love easy-to-read books. This, whilst being easy-to-read, was pretty dire. I actually feel a bit mean for disliking this book, but the characters were cringe-worthingly stereotypical, not too mention irritating, and the events nonsensical.
Saying that, the general idea is pretty good, it just needed refining

I Heart New York by Lindsey Kelk
Glorious fun; I enjoyed this from start to finish, and I'm a diehard crusader against Sex and the City (which some people might compare this too). There's certainly lots of shopping, but fortunately, unlike SATC, the characters are actually very likeable and pretty funny. Will definitely read the rest of the series.

The Stork Club: One Woman's Journey to the Front Line of Fertility Treatment by Imogen Edwards-Jones
I can see this book being very helpful to women in the same boat as Edwards-Jones, as she really goes into detail more than a fictional title might. IVF sounds hugely terrifying, and I have a lot of respect for anyone doing it, especially the injecting-yourselves part.

Moving Pictures - A Discworld Novel by Terry Pratchett
This was one of the first Terry Pratchett books I'd ever read, and it's also one of my favourites. If you love movies, particularly movie history, I can guarantee you'll love geeking out over all the references. When I was 14 I only got about 5, but there are many more pastiches of the Golden Hollywood years, and cinema going in general. Entertaining stuff.

Wrath of the Lemming-men by Toby Frost
Toby Frost just gets better and better: this was absolutely hilarious from start to finish. My favourite character changes from page to page, although Smith and Carveth are currently tied. I often compare it to Hitchhikers and Red Dwarf, but in all honesty I probably find this series a bit funnier- am I allowed to say that?

Snakes and Earrings by Hitomi Kanehara
It's been a very long while since I could read a book in an hour, but I managed it with this one. Not in a consecutive hour, mind, as I read the first twenty minutes in public before some very kinky stuff began to happen and I got quite embarrassed. Generally it's very good, if quite alien. Normally the main characters demand your sympathy whereas Lui needs to be quite alien, even regarding the reader-narrator relationship.
